England is in upheaval at the start of the tenth century. Alfred the Great has died, and his son Edward now reigns. Wessex survives, but peace will not last: the Danes in the north, headed by Viking Cnut Longsword, are poised to attack and will not rest until they have the emerald crown.
Uhtred, previously Alfred’s renowned warrior but now despised by the new king, must lead a band of exiles north to reclaim his ancestral stronghold, Bebbanburg, the ancient Northumbrian fortress.
As every Saxon country is pushed into the fiercest conflict yet with the Danes, loyalties will be torn and men will fall in The Pagan Lord; a war that will decide the fate of every monarch, and the entire English nation.
