Unlike other management guides, The Mafia Manager shuns theoretical verbiage and instead presents the pragmatism and guiding philosophy of the leadership that founded and captained “The Silent Empire” through its centuries of expansion and success.

And rather than being seen as the twisted workings of the so-called “criminal” mind, these plans of action and gems of counsel are presented for what they indeed are – the reflection of a penetrating understanding of the dynamics of human nature. The Mafia Manager promises the most unique and practical guidebook on management ever. No reader will look at the workplace in quite the same way

Book Review by Jack Alexander

This is a book that I have been familiar with since shortly after its publication. There is more sound advice in it, than in many university level business management courses. I may have actually worked briefly for “V” about 40 years ago in one of his legitimate businesses which sometimes crossed the line into illegitimate. If “V” is who I suspect that he is, he was born in Sicily in the 1920’s and came to America as an adolescent boy fluent in Sicilian, Italian, and French.

Learned English here and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1944. Then he was commissioned into the US Army as an Intelligence Corps officer. He, along with about 140 other men, shared the same security clearance as Eisenhower on D-day; but he had already parachuted into St-Lo, the night before, to try to disable the 210mm land based navel gun there. After the war he returned to Detroit and became a legitimate (and alleged illegitimate) businessman and alleged Capo of significant repute.

His actual rank in Detroit organized crime is believed to have been significantly higher than a capo. The Feds managed to gave him a “Club Fed” vacation for several years in the early 1980’s for labor racketeering. He was an intelligent, well educated, and knowledgeable man of impeccably good manners, and was respected (and often feared) by almost everyone who had business dealings with him. In his own way, he was a “Man of Honor”. He died of cancer in 2007.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“Whoever V. is, he offers the sort of advice it is dangerous to refuse.” ―Playboy

“A grimly brutally humorous book at the business world. Consider it a merger, or hostile takeover, so to speak, of How to Get Ahead in Business Without Really Trying by The Godfather.” ―The Washington Post

About the Author
