About the Author
The year 1948 saw the birth of Robert Jordan in Charleston, South Carolina. With the accidental help of a brother who was twelve years older than him, he taught himself to read when he was four and was reading Mark Twain and Jules Verne by the time he was five. He earned a physics degree from South Carolina’s Military College, The Citadel. His awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross with bronze oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star with “V” and bronze oak leaf cluster, two Vietnamese Gallantry Crosses with palm, and he did two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army.
He is an avid student of history and has also authored commentary on dance and theater. He also likes to play poker, chess, pool, hunt, fish, and collect pipes indoors. The Wheel of Time®, one of the most significant and best-selling series in the history of fantasy publishing, was written by Robert Jordan in 1977. Over 14 million copies of the book have been sold in North America, and countless more have been sold elsewhere.
