During nuclear fusion, the suns extremely high pressure extremely high pressure and hot temperature cause hydrogen atoms to come apart and their nuclei (the central cores of the atoms) to fuse or combine.
Four hydrogen nuclei fuse to become one helium atom. But the helium atom weighs less than the four nuclei that combined to form it. Some matter is lost during nuclear fusion. The lost matter is emitted into space as radiant energy.
People have harnessed solar energy for centuries, as far back as the 7th century B.C where people used magnifying glasses to concentrate the light from the sun into beams so hot that would cause wood to catch fire. 1n 1936, Charles Greeley Abbott, an American astrophysicist, developed a remarkably efficient solar boiler. As at that time, solar water heating was popular and were utilized till the world war II. Today, people use solar energy to heat buildings and water and to generate electricity.
