The definitive text in cell biology
Molecular Biology – As the amount of information in biology expands dramatically, it becomes increasingly important for textbooks to distill this vast amount of scientific knowledge into concise principles and enduring concepts. Molecular Biology of the Cell, Sixth Edition accomplishes this goal with clear writing and beautiful illustrations.
The Sixth Edition has been extensively revised and updated with the latest research in cell biology, and it provides an exceptional framework for teaching and learning.
Book Review by John M. Perry
This is not merely the best cell/molecular biology textbook
This is not merely the best cell/molecular biology textbook, it is likely the best textbook ever produced. The style makes the subject easy to understand while still being informative; it almost reads like a novel. Each small section makes and then illustrates a specific point. This is reiterated by clear and helpful figures. It is not a book of just facts.
The reader comes to understand what experiments and what evidence supports the current models. This helps students and professionals alike improve their own thinking. The book is ideal for both undergrad and grad/medical students but still very useful for professionals already established in the field. Each new edition provides appropriately updated information without ‘throwing the baby out with the bathwater’.
Editorial Reviews
Review
“Throughout the book, emphasis is placed not just on what ‘we know’ but also on ‘how we know’ and ‘what remains to be discovered’- important for engaging and enthusing students….A quarter of a century after the first edition revolutionised cell biology textbooks, the new edition is as fresh, comprehensive and above all, as readable as ever….Like its predecessors, this is a superb textbook for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students.”

“Professors, lecturers, and instructors will find the fifth edition of the book Molecular Biology of the Cell and its accompanying Problems Book to be an excellent choice for guiding their students through the maze of the cell’s molecular structures and biochemical processes….With countless colorful illustrations and a large number of photographs and tables, reading the text becomes not only an educational experience, but also a highly enjoyable one for those students who wish to discover the inner workings of the magnificent cellular machine….Educators will also find the DVD-ROM to be a rich electronic resource when compiling their lectures….No less important is the Problems Book, which contains numerous exercises and questions that are an integral part of the learning process, and that teachers, instructors, and students are sure to appreciate.”
