Editorial Reviews

“[Hargrave’s] use of computer-related terms should resonate with tech-savvy readers, including those resistant to typical self-help fare.” (Publisher’s Weekly)

Review – Mind Hacking by Sir John Hargrave PDF

This book starts off in the right track with a great hook (a technique writers use at the beginning of the book in order to bait and keep readers engaged into the rest of the text) but then after a few chapters you realize it is just the typical self-help book with nothing much different to offer than other works in the same genre.

As a computer scientist and working on the IT field for more than 20 years I found some stories quite entertaining and I could specially relate to the author when it comes to alcohol and drug abuse (something that I witnessed over and over when I was on college and saw many friends wasting their careers away). Mind Hacking by Sir John Hargrave

Other than that, it is essentially a standard self-help book that promises to change your life within X days.

The difference is that the authors uses an approach biased on a hacking/computer programmer flavor with some
IT-related stories sprinkled throughout the text.

Overall it is not bad. Actually if you belong to the IT field you may find it quite a refreshing and engaging read, but if you are already familiar with self-help books Im afraid you wont find anything earth-shattering here.

If this is your first self-help book and you belong to the IT are you may wanna rate it as a 4 stars.

For me it was just an average book, and being a self-help junkie myself I always have my expectation bar raised pretty high so normally I would have given it only 2 stars, but I’ve decided to bump it up to 3 stars because of the IT/hacking/programming stories and jargon which I’ve found quite entertaining not to say unusual (in a positive way) for the genre.
