Lafarge Africa Plc National Essay Competition 2020

Apply for Lafarge Africa Plc National Essay Competition 2020 Over N3 Million in Cash Prizes. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Nigeria and the 60th anniversary of LAP in Nigeria, LAP is organising a national essay competition.

The theme for the essay competition is “Building the Nigeria of my dreams”, which is in line with LAP’s nation-building initiative, to promote patriotism and corporate citizenship.

Lafarge National Essay Competition Categories.

The competition is broken down into two categories:

  • The Junior Category – The length of the essay shall not exceed 500 words (+/- 10%) for the Junior Category and 750 words (+/- 10%) for the Intermediate Category
  • The Intermediate Category – The length of the essay shall not exceed 750 words (+/- 10%) for the Intermediate Category.

Lafarge National Essay Competition Prizes.

First Prize:

  • N1,500,000.00, as well as books, branded school accessories such as school bags, water bottles, flasks and educational tablets, pre-loaded with educational content.

Second Prize:

  • N1,000,000.00, as well as books, branded school accessories such as school bags, water bottles, flasks and educational tablets, pre-loaded with educational content.

Third Prize:

  • N750,000.00, as well as books, branded school accessories such as school bags, water bottles, flasks and educational tablets, pre-loaded with educational content.

Others:

  • Consolation prizes of N200,000.00 each will be given to the authors of 2 good essays from each category. They will also receive books, branded school accessories such as school bags, water bottles and flasks.

The top winners for each category will also receive a desktop computer system each for their schools with complete accessories.

Lafarge National Essay Competition Eligibility.

The competition is open to:

  • Pupils of Public Primary Schools who are between the ages of 9 to 13 years, for the Junior Category of the competition, and
  • Students of Public Junior Secondary Schools who are between the ages of 9 to 13 years for the Intermediate Category of the competition.
  • Note: The children of LAP employees are not be allowed to participate.

  • Late entries will not be accepted.
  • Each participant is allowed to submit only one entry. Any participant who submits multiple entries will be disqualified.
  • Participants should retain their own copies of the essays as no entries will be returned. There will be no feedback on any entries, either during or after the competition.

LAFARGE AFRICA’S NATIONAL ESSAY COMPETITION
TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Nigeria and the 60th anniversary of LAP in Nigeria, LAP is organising a national essay competition. The theme for the essay competition is “Building the Nigeria of my dreams”, which is in line with LAP’s nation building initiative, to promote patriotism and corporate citizenship.
  2. The competition will run from midnight on 4th December 2020 until midnight on 31st December 2020. Late entries will not be accepted.
  3. The competition is broken down into two categories. The Junior Category and the Intermediate Category. The length of the essay shall not exceed 500 words (+/- 10%) for the Junior Category and 750 words (+/- 10%) for the Intermediate Category.
  4. The 20 top participants will be selected on 26th January 2021. They will be required to do a video presentation of their respective essays from 2nd February, 2021 to 3rd February, 2021.
  5. The final winners will be chosen by LAP and announced on 17th February 2021.
  6. The competition is open to:
    • pupils of public primary schools who are between the ages of 9 to 13 years, for the Junior Category of the competition, and
    • students of public junior secondary schools who are between the ages of 9 to 13 years for the Intermediate Category of the competition.
  7. The children of LAP employees are not be allowed to participate.
  8. Each participant is allowed to submit only one entry. Any participant who submits multiple entries will be disqualified.
  9. Each participant is required to complete the online forms with the required information on www.learnwithlafarge.com (the “Online Portal”). All essays must be written in English, typed, and uploaded to the Online Portal in accordance with the instructions specified.
  10. Participants should retain their own copies of the essays as no entries will be returned. There will be no feedback on any entries, either during or after the competition.
  11. The 20 top selected participants for each category will be required to provide their birth certificate, school accreditation, passport photograph, and first term result for the 2019/2020 academic session for verification.
  12. The first, second and third overall winners for each category will receive cash prizes of N1,500,000.00, N1,000,000.00 and N750,000.00 respectively, as well as books, branded school accessories such as school bags, water bottles, flasks and educational tablets, pre-loaded with educational content.
  13. The top winners for each category will also receive a desktop computer system each for their schools with complete accessories.
  14. Consolation prizes of N200, 000.00 each will be given to the authors of 2 good essays from each category. They will also receive books, branded school accessories such as school bags, water bottles and flasks.
  15. The cash prizes shall be held in trust for the winners and shall be strictly utilized for their educational needs. The prizes are not transferable and no part or parts of the prizes may be substituted for other benefits, items or additions.
  16. The decision regarding the winners of the competition is final.
  17. LAP reserves the right, at their sole and absolute discretion, to use the names, photographs and information about the participants, in accordance with the completed consent forms, which will be provided by the participant’s parent/guardian, for any commercial or non-commercial endeavours, publicity, advertising, trade or promotion in perpetuity.
  18. LAP will not be responsible or liable for any problem, loss or damage of whatsoever nature suffered by any person due to any delay and/or failure in submitting entries to the competition.
  19. LAP will not be responsible or liable for any costs, problems, damage or loss of whatsoever nature to the participants resulting from their participation in the competition.
  20. LAP reserves the right to disqualify any participant who may submit any material, which in LAP’s opinion is considered to be offensive.
  21. Entries must be the original work by the participant.
  22. Any form of plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that their essay does not infringe the copyright of any third party or any other laws.
  23. Use of personal data received by LAP in the course of the competition will be subject to the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation. The winners will be published in selected national dailies and on LAP’s social media handles.
  24. Submission of an entry will be deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.
