Review of Instinct by T.D. Jakes PDF

‘Who am I?, why am I here?’ is, I believe, the most frequently asked question in life. ‘What was it that I was born to do?’ We often scurry through life in search of solutions. We spend a lot of time going to seminars and looking for self-help books. In his book, author, teacher, entrepreneur, and bishop of the enormous Potter House Church of Dallas shows how everyone can use the gift that God has given to every man: instinct, to find answers to some of life’s most pressing concerns.

Instinct has a significant role in determining one’s fate. Instinct is to man what a compass or GPS is to a pilot. The author explains that each aspect of the pluripotent cell instinctively obeys ‘innate orders’ to become skin cells, bone cells, brain cells, and so on without stress, using the illustration of man’s development from a single fertilized cell that becomes the ‘pluripotent cell,’ which has the capacity to form all cell types in the living human. Man was created to function in his own area, in tune with his inner wisdom, capabilities, abilities, talents, and one-of-a-kind contribution to the world.

Instinct is God’s inner programming, however it is superior to programming unless man is compared to a robot. Because it can evolve or be muted, it is above programming. Without or with little education, all of God’s creations yearn for their natural home, and every man yearns for guidelines toward survival, safety, and fulfillment. INSTINCT is both a map and a guide to all of these things and more. Because they routinely ignored ‘guidance’ from their ‘inner man,’ many people are frustrated or poor. Many people are stuck in the wrong career, marriage, or life. God, the master architect, has given us a basic instinct that pulls us toward divine purpose. On the football field, Tiger Woods is just another regular guy, but on the golf course, he’s a genius. An ordinary man is a guy out of rhythm with his instinct, and an ordinary man is a man out of sync with his instinct. Instinct is the instruction manual that informs you who you are and what you have, as well as the equipment that enable you to function and the style that allows you to achieve in life. Our instincts are a treasure map to the fulfillment of our souls.

Because we are not all faced with the same difficulties and obstacles in life, everyone of us has a unique instinct. Bishop Jakes believes that the trials that each person is encountering are a sign of our destiny and the problems that we were born to address. We must salvage these issues in order to generate solutions and a future. We must not run away from our difficulties, but rather face them head on. This gets increasingly genuine as we progress through various stages of life and encounter various situations.

Our sense of self-identity is based on instinct. ‘….Many can copy what you do, but none can duplicate what you do if you produce visibly what you possess internally, if you follow your instincts from the inside out, you emerge in a class all your own…. Page 69 of Chapter 7.

The goal of the book is to get the reader to appreciate inner imprints and instructions. Imprints for growth, inspiration, innovation, and new ideas. Many people are caught in other people’s lives, allowing the noise of other people’s opinions to drown out what their hearts desire. Despite the chill of fear and the recollection of previous failures, we must allow our urge to plunge and continue diving.

I must admit that I had a fantastic time reading this book. I had, and still have, a lot of thoughts on the book. This one book, I believe, has the potential to start a movement and will continue to benefit people long after the author has passed away. However, I believe that the work of the Holy Spirit in a man’s life must be correctly placed, understood, and juxtaposed with Instinct. This was not stated explicitly in the text.

INSTINCT by Bishop TD Jakes is one of my favorite books, and I’m glad I read it at this point in my life. You will also be doing yourself a lot of good if you opt to read a copy of the book.

If readers are ready to unlock the confines of where they are, and discover where they were meant to be, then INSTINCT is their key!

An instant #1 New York Times bestseller for six weeks, Bishop T.D. Jakes’s smash-hit INSTINCT shows readers how to tap into their God-given intuition to achieve ultimate success.

Whether you call it following your heart, a gut feeling, a hunch or intuition, instinct-the inner knowledge bubbling up from a wellspring of wisdom within-can lead to a bigger, elephant-sized life.

Modern life can seem like being lost in a jungle. With distractions and dangers emerging from every direction, it’s easy to lose focus. Over time, we lose touch with one of our most powerful, purposeful, God-given attributes–the desire to be fruitful and multiply, what Bishop T. D. Jakes calls our “instinct for increase.”
