Jolenta wanted to believe the promises of self-help books before they started their podcast, while Kristen was a skeptic. They embraced their disagreements in the hopes of garnering chuckles and downloads. However, in the years since the show’s inception, they’ve realized that it’s about much more than just comedy. In fact, reading and following the recommendations in each book has improved and changed their lives. Kristen wrote the Amish romance novel she’d always joked about writing, traveled to former lifetimes, and had uncomfortable conversations with her husband about their marriage thanks to the show. Jolenta finally remembered her husband’s phone number, started keeping track of her finances, and became obsessed with decluttering.
Jolenta and Kristen integrate the lessons and insights they’ve gained and share their experiences with everyone in How to Be Fine. How to Be Fine is a thorough examination of the books and techniques that have worked, candid discussion of those that haven’t, and a list of ideologies they’d like to see further explored. The following are some of the themes they cover:
- Disconnecting from your device
- Talking to yourself in a positive manner
- Downsizing
- Admitting you’re a liar is a big step.
- Meditation
- Leaving the house
- Getting in touch with your feelings is a good thing to do.
- Seeing a therapist is a good idea.
