In the just-concluded Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams, more students applied to private institutions as compared to previous years, this may be due to the fear of spending more than the stipulated duration to study a course due to different factors in a government-owned institution. The major deterrent in applying to private universities is usually the cost of tuition.
There are up to 99 private universities registered and recognized by the NUC in Nigeria. Most of them are not very popular but they still offer quality education, courses accredited by the NUC without being expensive.
