ETH Excellence Scholarships

ETH Zurich awards merit scholarships to excellent national and international students both from the ETH and from other universities wishing to pursue a Master’s degree at ETH with two scholarship programmes: the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) which covers the full study and living costs of the students and the Master Scholarship Programme (MSP) where students receive a partial stipend and the offer of an assistantship.

University of Lausanne Masters Grants for International Students

The University of Lausanne in Switzerland is offering scholarships to international students who want to pursue a Masters’s Degree at the University through the UNIL Master’s Grants. The amount of the grant is CHF 1,600.- per month

EPFL Excellence Fellowships

Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) offers a limited number of fellowships at the Master’s level to students with brilliant academic records. Anyone can apply to an EPFL Master’s Program. Each fellowship consists of a financial package of CHF 16,000 per academic year plus reservation of a room in student accommodation for international students.

University of Geneva Excellence Master Fellowships (hyperlink)

In collaboration with various sponsors, the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Science established an Excellence Fellowship Program to support outstanding and candidates with brilliant academic records who want to pursue a Master of Science in any of the disciplines covered by the Faculty. The Excellence Fellowship award value is a grant amounting to CHF 10,000 to CHF 15,000 per year.

Value of Award: ESOP covers the full study and living costs of the students while MSP students receive a partial stipend and the offer of an assistantship.

Eligibility:

  • ETH Excellence Masters Scholarship programmes are open to excellent national and international students both from the ETH and from other universities wishing to pursue their Master’s degree at ETH Zurich.
  • To be considered for either scholarship programme, you must apply for a Master’s degree programme at ETH Zurich.
  • Must possess an outstanding result in  Bachelor’s degree (top 10% of Bachelor’s programme equals grade A).
  • Applicants also need to make sure they are able to be reachable under the telephone number specified in their CV as the selection process might include a phone/VC interview in February.

Application instructions: 

  • After applying for a Master’s degree programme, applicants need to upload a pre-proposal for their master thesis. The scholarship application form and all other supporting documents must be submitted online before 15 December 2021.

University of Lausanne Masters Grants for International Students

The University of Lausanne in Switzerland is pleased to announce scholarships to international students who wish to pursue a Master’s Degree at the University through the UNIL Master’s Grants. This grant is offered on a competitive basis.

Non-Eligible Field(s) of study:

•  Master from the School of Medicine

•  Master of Education

•  Master of Law from the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne

•  Master of criminal Law, magistracy specialism

• Master of Science in Physical Education and Sports Didactics

• Master of Science in Health sciences

•  All MASs (PhD programmes)

Note: All Master’s programmes from among those offered by the UNIL are open for application except those listed above. For the Master of Law, only two specializations – “international and comparative law” and “legal theory” are open to applications for this Master’s scholarship.

Eligible group: International students

Number of Award:10 or more

Award value: CHF 1,600 per month.

Students offered a scholarship will be exempt from the fixed registration fees for the courses, except the CHF 80.00 fees to be paid each semester.

Eligibility:

•  Should have obtained a foreign university degree considered equivalent to a bachelor’s at UNIL before applying for the beginning of the master’s programme at UNIL.

•  Outstanding academic results.

•  Should have a language level of at least B2 (according to the European Language Portfolio global scale) in French or English according to the language in which your chosen master is taught.

•  New applicant, no past application or registration with UNIL in the past.

•  Paid the CHF 200.00 administration fee (check school website for document, “list of documents to attach to your application”).

  • No application for admission is to be made for the master’s degree via the Admissions Department (SII).
  • Applicants must send their completed application with required documents, unbound, by post at the university’s address. emails or mails are not acceptable

EPFL Excellence Fellowships

Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) offers a limited number of fellowships at the Master’s level to students with outstanding academic records. Applicants applying to an EPFL Master’s Program are eligible. Some of the fellowships are financed by EPFL directly and others through partnerships with foundations or companies.

Number of Awards: Limited

Eligible group: International  and national students

Award value: CHF 16,000 per academic year split into 8,000 per semester and a reservation of a student room in a student residence. 

Eligibility

  • Any candidate applying to an EPFL Master’s Program is eligible for the scholarship.
  • Applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent) in a related field from a recognized university can apply to one of the EPFL Masters Programs.
  • Selection of candidates and the granting of the fellowships is done based only on credibility and the evaluation of the academic records of the candidates.

Application instructions:

  • Application for external applicants is done online for your application to a Master’s program.
  • Tick a box indicating that your profile should also be considered for an excellence fellowship.
  • Applications can be filled online from mid-November to the 15th of December, or from the 16th of December to the 15th of April.

  • All students including international students. If you have passed or are doing a brilliant bachelor’s degree, this program is for you.
  • You must meet the admission criteria of the Master’s programme of your choice and selection is solely on the basis of the application file for an Excellence Fellowship.

Application instructions:

  • Applications open in January 2022.
  • An application will be considered if, the applicant has to fulfilled the enrollment procedure as described on the Admissions office website. 
  • The application is made online from the beginning of January. Upon registering, you will receive an e-mail containing a personal link allowing you to fill out the application form. The application’s deadline is 15 March 2022.
